Investigation Discovery‘s true-crime series Evil Lives Here will air the episode titled “She Called to Say I Killed Them” on the network on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at 9 p.m. ET. The episode will uncover the details of the killings of Sharon Castro and Brooklynn Youngblood, Ron Youngblood’s children.

On August 5, 2018, Veronica Youngblood shot her daughters—Sharon Castro, 15, and Brooklynn Youngblood, 5—in their home. She reportedly gave them melatonin-laced gummies to put them to sleep before shooting them while they were in bed. Moreover, she admitted to shooting the children with the intention to kill herself after that as part of exacting revenge on her ex-husband, Ron Youngblood. The latter was scheduled to take Brooklynn with him to Missouri after he was given custody of her, reported The Washington Post.

Brooklynn Youngblood was shot in the head and died immediately. Sharon Castro was shot in the back and the chest. However, she managed to contact 911 and tell authorities that Veronica shot them. Emergency services then rushed Sharon to the hospital, where she died. According to Fox News, Veronica bought the gun about a week before the murder after the court gave Ron Youngblood custody of Brooklynn, who was his biological child.

After the killing, Veronica reportedly called Ron and left a voicemail in which she admitted to killing the children and expressed her spite for him, People Magazine reported. Following this, the mother was charged with the killing of both her children.

When did Veronica and Ron Youngblood separate?

Per another report by The Washington Post, Veronica and Ron married in 2009. Before marrying Ron, Veronica gave birth to Sharon Castro when she was 16. She reportedly suffered physical and sexual abuse in her growing years and had to resort to sex work when she was pregnant with Sharon. In 2018, the couple decided to separate, and the family was to leave for Missouri. However, Veronica reportedly chose to stay in Virginia and didn’t want to let Brooklynn go.

However, Ron Youngblood alleged that Veronica killed his children because she knew the girls meant the world to him. He also expressed his wish for the court to sentence her to life in prison. Veronica Youngblood was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder of both children. She was sentenced to 78 years in prison, reported The Washington Post. Moreover, she was found guilty of using a firearm to commit a murder.

On the other hand, NBC Washington reported that Veronica Youngblood claimed she heard voices that led her to kill her daughters. Her attorney also alleged that Ron was an abusive husband, an accusation that Ron denied. The court also described the killings as a classic case of “filicide,” which refers to murder cases where parents kill their children.

Evil Lives Here‘s upcoming episode will dig deeper into the deaths of Ron Youngblood’s children. It will air on ID on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at 9 p.m.
