Where Is Scott Peterson Now & What Is His Release Date?

Trigger warning: The article discusses death and violence.

An assailant brutally murdered Laci Peterson on December 24, 2002, while she was eight months pregnant. Laci was a resident of Modesto, California. The police didn’t take much time to initiate the investigation and soon named her husband, Scott Peterson, as the prime suspect.

In April 2003, authorities discovered a woman’s body and an unborn child near San Francisco Bay. The authorities identified the bodies, confirming that Laci Peterson and her unborn son, Conner, were the individuals in question. On April 18 of the same year, authorities arrested Scott Peterson and charged him with two counts of felony murder. Scott denied killing his wife and entered a plea of not guilty to the charges.

The trial commenced and lasted for five months. After months of testimony, the jury rendered a guilty verdict on all charges against Scott Peterson and sentenced him to life in prison. But where is he now, and can he ever be released from prison?

Scott Peterson now: Is he still in jail & when is his potential release?

As mentioned above, the court found Scott Peterson guilty on all charges and sentenced him to death in the Laci Peterson case. Since he filed numerous appeals, it led to the overturning of his death penalty. As a result, the court resentenced Scott to life without the possibility of parole in December 2021. He is currently serving his sentence at the Mule Creek State Prison in Ione.

During the trial, the prosecutors presented evidence against Scott, further highlighting infidelity within his relationship with Laci Peterson. Most of the evidence presented at the beginning of the trial consisted of circumstantial evidence. However, the testimony of Scott Peterson’s lover, Amber Frey, and various other factors made it clear that Laci’s husband played a role in killing her. Despite the defense’s efforts to convince the jury that there was no direct evidence against their client, the jury found him guilty on all charges and sentenced him to prison.

The jury interpreted Scott’s lack of emotion in the days following Laci Peterson’s disappearance as an indication of his guilt. As of today, Scott Peterson is still behind bars.

The case garnered a lot of media attention. In 2004, a movie named The Perfect Husband: The Laci Peterson story released on TV. Meanwhile, the 2017 documentary titled The Murder of Laci Peterson aired on A&E.
