Watch: New Trailer for ‘Pan’ Tells Us This Isn’t the Story We’ve Heard Before

Up until today my interest in Pan begins and ends at Rooney Mara‘s involvement, in part because I’m not a huge fan of fantasy tales and also because I feel like I already know the story it intends to tell, and as a Rooney Mara fan it feels like she is all I have to cling to. But if we are to believe the narration in this newest trailer, perhaps there is reason for me to step back and reframe my expectations.

“I’m going to tell you a story about a boy who would never grow up, about the pirate who wished to catch him, about the island where fairies roamed,” the narrator states at the beginning of the trailer below. “But this isn’t the story you’ve heard before.” Part of me wonders if that is true, or if it’s just another way for the studio to sell the film, but perhaps it will help myself and fellow skeptics of Joe Wright‘s take on the Peter Pan tale go into the film with more of an open mind.

I still don’t necessarily think the film looks very good, but then again I see so few trailers that it’s hard to tell anymore, I could certainly be wrong. I guess we have to wait to see, as Pan doesn’t hit theaters until October 9, but until then here is a new trailer for you all to watch, featuring Levi Miller as the titular Peter Pan, Hugh Jackman as the pirate Blackbeard, Garrett Hedlund as Hook and Mara as Tiger Lily.
