I’m looking forward to seeing Andrew Niccol‘s Good Kill, an upcoming dramatic thriller starring Ethan Hawke as a drone-pilot who spends twelve hours of every day fighting the Taliban by remote control. My only concern is the part of the synopsis is where it says he “then goes home to the suburbs and feuds with his wife and kids for the other twelve.” My concern comes from the fact this isn’t a new aspect to cinema, this inability for members of the military to exist in both worlds at once. My hope is Niccol has found a way to explore this territory in a way that feels fresh as the use of a drone-pilot is already going to get kudos from some merely for the sake of being topical.
All that said, a new trailer for the movie, which has already premiered at a variety of film festivals and will be playing in Tribeca ahead of its May 15 release, has arrived. Along with Hawke the film co-stars January Jones, Bruce Greenwood and Zoe Kravitz.
