I think we were all a little surprised by the kind of phenomenon Pitch Perfect turned into. I thought it was a fine little movie with some laughs. I am very bothered, however, by the idea it’s about a capella singing considering it’s all auto tuned. But with the movie making over $100 million at the box office and scoring a top ten Billboard hit, it was pretty much a no-brainer for Universal to make Pitcher Perfect 2.
If you watched the Super Bowl, you would have caught the new spot for the film. If you didn’t or want to watch it again, you can do so below. I am a very passive football fan, so I did not know that the really buff dude in the trailer is Clay Matthews, who is a linebacker for the Green Bay Packers. I guess that was a fun nod for football fans. I don’t know. It seems like clashing audiences there.
I know there will be things in the sequel that bother me. The auto tuned music and the over reliance on Rebel Wilson ad libs will probably be amped up for this one, as they seemed to be everyone’s favorite aspects of the first one (and my least favorite). But I am still interested in it for some mild, kind of fun entertainment and to see how Elizabeth Banks handles being behind the camera. Also, Anna Kendrick. She’s the best, and I will not hear anything to the contrary.
Again, you can watch the Super Bowl spot below.
