The story behind Unfriended is that Universal execs saw a test screening and apparently it terrified a test audience, so they up and picked up the cyber thriller (previously titled Cybernatural) which unfolds over a teenager’s computer screen as she and her friends are stalked by an unseen figure who seeks vengeance for a shaming video that led a vicious bully to kill herself a year earlier.
Of course, this immediately reminds me of the short film Noah (watch that here), which also takes place entirely on someone’s computer. I can only assume director Levan Gabriadze and writer Nelson Greaves saw the short and were inspired by it, though I’m not sure if they or producer Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) will be admitting that any time soon.
Today the first trailer, poster and some pictures from the movie have come online. The pic hits theaters on April 17 and pretty much stars no one you’ve ever heard of, check out the trailer and all the other goods directly below.
