New ‘Unbroken’ Trailer and Pictures

The subject of Angelina Jolie‘s new film, Louis Zamperini, passed away on July 2, which, as callous as it may be, immediately caused many to wonder if it would hurt or help the film’s Oscar chances. Personally I believe it just adds one more emotional layer to what sounds like a very emotional story.

Universal has released some new pictures and a brand new trailer for the film, Unbroken, which is based on The New York Times bestselling book “Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption” by Laura Hillenbrand (“Seabiscuit: An American Legend”), following the incredible life story of Olympian and war hero Zamperini who, along with two other crewmen, survived in a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII–only to be caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.

The film currently sits atop my early Oscar predictions for Best Picture with a screenplay written by Joel Coen & Ethan Coen, Richard LaGravenese and William Nicholson along with a cast that includes Jack O’Connell as Zamperini, Domhnall Gleeson, Miyavi, Garrett Hedlund and Finn Wittrock.

Unbroken hits theaters on Christmas Day, watch the trailer and check out the rest of the pictures below.
