I still wish The Purge: Anarchy was an immediate sequel to The Purge, which is to say a story that dealt with the day after the events of the first movie played out rather than a rehash of the first film. Perhaps that’s what the third film will be… The Purge: The Day After, The Purge: Requiem, or something like that. As it stands, The Purge: Anarchy is just another night featuring 12 hours of anarchy, which will hopefully be a bit more fun than the last one, which had its moments but was an overall disappointment.
James DeMonaco wrote and directed the film, which stars Frank Grillo, Carmen Ejogo, Zach Gilford, Kiele Sanchez and Michael K. Williams (who damn well better live to the end and be the last man standing).
The film hits theaters on July 18.
