Fox recently dated their adaptation of Markus Zusak‘s 550-page, World War II-era novel, The Book Thief, for November 15 without much fanfare to go along with it. Narrated by Death, the story tells of Liesel Meminger (Sophie Nélisse) from the time she is taken at age 9 to live with a foster family in a German working-class neighborhood. Liesel arrives having just stolen her first book, “The Gravediggers Handbook”, beginning a love affair with books.
The film is directed by Brian Percival (“Downton Abbey”) and co-stars Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson.
There is a possibility this could creep into the Oscar conversation, but I’ll be curious to hear your reaction after watching the trailer. Give it a look below and let me know what you think.
I’ve also included several pictures from the film below the trailer and on the second page.
