J.C. Chandor‘s All is Lost was one of the best films I saw at the Cannes Film Festival this year. Here’s the first paragraph from my “A+” review:
Alone at sea, 1,700 nautical miles from shore in the Indian Ocean, one man awakes aboard his yacht, the “Virginia Jean”. The boat is taking on water after being struck by a shipping container fallen from a freighter and floating at sea. He repairs the hole, but the salt water has damaged his equipment and he’s sailing blind. All is Lost traces this man’s journey against the elements in a fight for survival and the end result is a tremendous piece cinema unlike anything you’re likely to have seen before.
You can read the full review right here, but you may want to first watch the first trailer that just arrived first, which can be viewed directly below.
Robert Redford stars as the one and only actor in the film and his character has only a few lines of dialogue, most of which are heard in this trailer as I think there may only be one or two more actual words spoken.
Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions will release All is Lost on October 18, watch the trailer below as this is sure to be a contender at this year’s Oscars and perhaps another Oscar win for Redford.
