Universal Home Entertainment is bringing the demon doll Chucky back to life in Curse of Chucky due on DVD and Blu-ray on October 8 and today the first trailer for the new film was released.
Written and directed by Don Mancini (who’s only claim to fame is the Child’s Play franchise), Curse of Chucky finds a family imperiled by the murderous doll with a cast made up of “Who dat?” names including Fiona Dourif, A Martinez, Danielle Bisutti and Brennan Elliott, with Brad Dourif returning to provide the voice of Chucky, a character he’s played since 1988’s Child’s Play.
One thing this trailer does is present the film as more of a horror rather than the comedic horror films the Chucky franchise became, and most recently ended with Seed of Chucky in 2004. I’ve never been a huge fan of Chucky and his films, but I know they have their following and I’m curious if the more general horror road is what the fans want or if the comedic aspects were what they tuned in for.
