The following red band trailer for Filth starring James McAvoy has got the blogosphere buzzing over its content. The film looks like something of a Scottish version of Bad Lieutenant, which isn’t a bad thing and could be fun, especially with the likes of Eddie Marsan, Jim Broadbent and Jamie Bell contributing, but it could also be too much of a “bad” thing.

Scheming Bruce Robertson (James McAvoy), a bigoted and corrupt policeman, is in line for a promotion and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Enlisted to solve a brutal murder and threatened by the aspirations of his colleagues, including Ray Lennox (Jamie Bell), Bruce sets about ensuring their ruin, right under the nose of unwitting Chief Inspector Toal. As he turns his colleagues against one another by stealing their wives and exposing their secrets, Bruce starts to lose himself in a web of deceit that he can no longer control. His past is slowly catching up with him, and a missing wife, a crippling drug habit and suspicious colleagues start to take their toll on his sanity. The question is: can he keep his grip on reality long enough to disentangle himself from the filth?

Comparisons to Trainspotting are being made, which is bound to happen considering the project is based on a novel from “Trainspotting” author Irvine Welsh with Jon S. Baird getting writing and directing credit.

As of now there is no release date either domestically or abroad, which tells me this one might be prime for a Midnight Madness premiere in Toronto this September. If so, I’ll do my best to check it out.

For now, check out the 18 certificate teaser trailer directly below along with the poster (via Hey You Guys).
