Paramount has revealed a new Star Trek Into Darkness teaser trailer and I have a feeling you’ll be able to find several nods to past sci-fi films in this one. The picture of Chris Pine as Captain Kirk up above is an obvious reminder of TRON: Legacy and while I didn’t watch the full trailer, Kevin over at The Playlist notes nods to Blade Runner and Star Wars, but aren’t those the standards when it comes to great sci-fi at this point?

In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness. The film features returning stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Simon Pegg and Karl Urban as well as newcomers Alice Eve, Peter Weller, Noel Clarke and Benedict Cumberbatch as John Harrison, the film’s villain.
When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.
With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk (Pine) leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man (Cumberbatch) weapon of mass destruction.
As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.
