Emily Blunt Targets Your Head in New ‘Looper’ International Trailer

The international scene has been offering some news when it comes to Rian Johnson‘s upcoming sci-fi film Looper starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis and Emily Blunt and I thought we’d begin with news from the Los Angeles Times reporting Chinese audiences will be getting a longer, different cut of the film than will be shown here in the States.

Steven Zeitchik reports a “longer, more Shanghai-centric edition” will hit Chinese theaters this year. Apparently, the original script featured scenes set in Paris, but when Chinese entity DMG was brought on to help finance the film these scenes shifted to Shanghai. However, while the scenes were shot, some of them were cut after American test audiences decided these scenes “upset the film’s pacing.” Ugh, test audiences decided this did they?

One of Zeitchik’s sources told him, “But the Chinese didn’t care about pacing, and they wanted the [China-set] scenes in, so we said OK.” Now this is filmmaking at its finest!

I have to assume Johnson wouldn’t sacrifice his film’s integrity, but with a budget reported around $60 million this is the most he’s had to work with and I just hope TriStar Pictures didn’t put the squeeze on him due to anything test audiences had to say.

As for the plot, Why don’t you give it a read and then check out the latest international trailer for the film directly below.

In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented — but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” — a hired gun, like Joe – is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good… until the day they decide to “close the loop”, sending back Joe’s future self for assassination.

Looper hits theaters on September 28.
