I already wrote quite a bit about The Possession back at the beginning of the month when the creepy poster you see to the right first debuted. Now a full trailer has arrived online to give even further information on the film said to be based on the true story of a couple (Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick) whose youngest daughter Em has become strangely obsessed with an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale.
Fast forward and it turns out the box is haunted by an evil spirit and the “true story” aspect comes in from a box that was sold on eBay said to carry similar powers, torturing those that were in its possession.
The film was originally titled The Dibbuk Box, which is the name of a website where you can trace the storied origins of the original box the film is based on. I’ll admit, hearing little ghost stories like this can raise the hairs on the back of my neck, but poorly executed films trying to use a true story to sell the scares rather than good storytelling is a bit of a bother.
Now I didn’t watch this trailer so I have no say one way or another, but I’m hoping this will end up being a solid horror film once it hits theaters on August 31.
You can check out the first trailer directly below.
