Rumor has it Faran Tahir who played Captain Robau in Star Trek and Raza in Iron Man is playing the Cobra Commander in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, stepping in for Joseph Gordon-Levitt who played the asthmatic villain in the 2009 original, but that is unconfirmed. Nevertheless, the new Super Bowl trailer for the film gives you a big ol’ eyeful of the villainous leader as Paramount has just debuted the new big game spot.
Directed by Jon Chu, the G.I. Joe sequel brings back the likes of Channing Tatum, Ray Park and Byung-hun Lee who are now joined by new faces including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Elodie Yung, RZA, D.J. Cotrona, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Stevenson, Joe Mazzello, Bruce Willis, Walt Goggins and DeRay Davis as the film is set to hit theaters on June 29.
The official synopsis tells us this time around the G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence. Oh man… Sounds intense!
