Watch The Rock in 3D in New ‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island’ Trailer and Poster

Last night Yahoo debuted the trailer for Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, the second Brendan Fraser franchise Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has honed in on, this time a sequel to Fraser’s 2008 3D adventure, Journey to the Center of the Earth.

The film, which is loosely based on Jules Verne’s “The Mysterious Island,” finds The Rock playing stepfather to Sean (the returning Josh Hutcherson) and the two have to team up when Sean receives a coded distress signal from his grandfather on a mysterious island where no island should exist. Together with a helicopter pilot and his daughter (Vanessa Hudgens), they set out to find the island, rescue grandpa and escape before seismic shockwaves force the island under the sea and bury its treasures forever.

The film will again be released in 3D and according to the poster IMAX 3D, which probably means the smaller, digital IMAX screens as it hits theaters on February 10, 2012 alongside Safe House and The Vow.

Brad Peyton (Cats and Dogs: Revenge of Kitty Galore) has stepped in for original helmer Eric Brevig (one of the rumored reasons Fraser decided not to return) and the film also stars Kristin Davis and Michael Caine, the latter of which I can only assume will be playing the lost grandfather.
