Watch the Final ‘Puss in Boots’ Trailer and Poster

MSN has had the pleasure of debuting a new Puss in Boots trailer and poster over the last two days as the animated spin-off makes ready for its October 28 theatrical debut. The film, which earlier this year I wasn’t even sure it was coming out Dreamworks had been so quiet about it, returns to the world Shrek inhabited over the span of four films, only this time centering on the swashbuckling feline Puss ass voiced by Antonio Banderas.

The film goes back in time to tell of an early adventure as Puss teams with mastermind Humpty Dumpty (Zach Galifianakis) and the street-savvy Kitty (Salma Hayek) to steal the famed goose that lays the Golden Eggs. Billy Bob Thornton, Amy Sedaris and Guillermo del Toro also provide voices to bring the story to life.

The question on this one is whether or not they’ve managed to reinvigorate The Kingdom of Far Far Away of which Shrek more-or-less defecated all over after that first film (admittedly I never saw the fourth Shrek movie) or if this will feel like a Shrek knockoff? I am praying they’ve figured something out because those Shrek films became intolerable as they searched for fairy tale characters to wedge into the story built on pop culture gags and very little entertainment.

As for this film’s chances at earning an Oscar nomination in Best Animated Feature, I so far have predicted it to fall outside the top five, but that means very little having not seen it and also unsure as to how the Academy will rule on films such as The Adventures of Tintin and Happy Feet Two when it comes to performance capture animation.

But don’t worry about Oscar junk right now, watch the trailer below and click here to browse my gallery of 18 images from the film and look for Puss in Boots on October 28.
