Red Band Trailer for Seann William Scott’s Hockey Comedy ‘Goon’ Doesn’t Look Too Good

Seann William Scott was originally tapped to star in Kevin Smith’s hockey comedy Hit Somebody, but bailed and ended up taking what looks like a version of Happy Gilmore had that Adam Sandler comedy embraced its lead character’s desire for fighting. The film is Goon and Scott plays a bouncer who overcomes long odds to lead a team of under performing misfits to semi-pro hockey glory, beating the crap out of everything that stands in his way.

Smith’s Hit Somebody sounds like it’s a similar project, but the only synopsis I’ve read says it’s about a “hockey player with a talent for fighting” so I’m not sure if it brings a little more nuance to the picture than this new international red band trailer for Goon seems to suggest.

Goon is directed by Michael Dowse, whose Take Me Home Tonight just hit DVD and Blu-ray after sitting on Universal’s shelves for a couple of years. Along with Scott the film stars Jay Baruchel, Liev Schreiber, Alison Pill, Marc-Andre Grondin and Eugene Levy and I must say this trailer doesn’t inspire much confidence, which is probably why the film still doesn’t have a distributor.
