Disney has just revealed the first trailer for The Muppets, which was attached to prints of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides over the weekend and just released on YouTube under the fake title of Green with Envy to conceal the surprise of a new Muppet film coming to theaters. Disney even went to such lengths as to create a Green with Envy Facebook page as well as create the fake poster I added to the bottom of this post.
The film features Jason Segel and Amy Adams along with a massive voice cast and tells the story of Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Segel) and Mary (Adams) from Smalltown, USA, who discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate. With secret, signature, celebrity cameos, The Muppets hits the big screen Nov. 23, 2011.
You can check out the trailer directly below and I just added a hi-res version of the recently released poster for the film. You can check that out right here.
