Announcement Video for Gore Verbinski’s ‘Rango’ Debuts

Apple has debuted an announcement video for Gore Verbinski’s animated feature Rango featuring the massive voice cast including Johnny Depp, Abigail Breslin, Isla Fisher, Ned Beatty, Harry Dean Stanton, Alfred Molina, Ray Winstone, Stephen Root, Bill Nighy and Timothy Olyphant as The Spirit of the West. The film centers on Rango, a household chameleon (voiced by Depp) that goes on an adventure to discover its true self.

The film is said to be using cutting-edge animation from Industrial Light and Magic of which Verbinski told Variety “will allow [him] to capture and translate every aspect of Johnny’s performance, using it to drive the computer-generated character in a way that has yet to be seen in an animated feature.”

This announcement doesn’t really offer much, so if you can make much out of it congratulations. Rango is a chameleon with an identity crisis… Soooo he turns himself into a wind-up fish? Okay.

Paramount has currently set a March 18, 2011 release date for the film. Check out the video directly below or watch it in high-definition at Apple. I am told an actual trailer will be coming soon.
