Anyone familiar with the career of Edward Norton realizes that he is, as Deadline Hollywood aptly puts it, “prickly” when it comes to his films. However, his prickly nature has probably been best documented during the productions of American History X and The Italian Job, two films I absolutely love and are a couple of great starts if you wanted to introduce someone to the world of Ed Norton. So to hear he is continuing to be his typical self with regards to The Incredible Hulk gives me great joy.
Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood reports that there is a bit of a battle going on in the editing room as Norton helped get the trailer ready last week and loves it, but he is trying to make sure his vision of the film itself makes it to the big screen.
Norton was brought on to rewrite the Zak Penn script and in turn was “promised tremendous involvement and access” says Finke. An insider tells her, “There’s a lot of posturing going on between Edward’s camp and Marvel over how you edit the final version,” and that starting last night and continuing at least throughout today, the actor will be holed up with Marvel Studios chairman David Maisel, Marvel Studios president of production Kevin Feige, and director Louis Leterrier to try to “reach an amicable resolution” to this $150+ million film feud.
All of Finke’s sources are unnamed, but one final quote says, “At this stage you always have discussions about what’s in the film and what’s not going to be in the film. Everyone’s very passionate, and Edward is very opinionated. There is a very healthy exchange of ideas going on. Discussions now are even more heated. But some of Ed’s best movies have had this exact dynamic to them. Everyone’s in the process of figuring it out and working it out. But I expect it’ll all get resolved pretty quickly.”
Personally it all sounds good to me. Fight it out, give folks the best film you can.
We will get our first real impression of what is on the horizon tonight at 6:56 PM PST as the trailer will debut online and you can be sure I will have the links for you so stay tuned.
