What happens in the I Can Only Imagine 2 trailer?
The I Can Only Imagine 2 trailer picks up following the band MercyMe’s massive success. Things aren’t all they’re cracked up to be, though, as the band and frontman Bart Millard continue to go through struggles in life as the band gets ready to go on tour with some new members, including Bart’s son.
I Can Only Imagine 2 sees several stars from the original film return, including John Michael Finley as Bart Millard, the lead singer of the band MercyMe. Trace Adkins and Dennis Quaid both return as well, along with newcomers to the film in the form of Sophie Skelton, Milo Ventimiglia, Arielle Kebbel, and more.
The movie is directed by Andrew Erwin and Brent McCorkle, who also serve as co-writers on the film. McCorkle also served as a writer on the original film, which was directed by Andrew Erwin and his brother, Jon, as the Erwin Brothers.
2018’s I Can Only Imagine followed the story of MercyMe and the creation of the band’s hit song of the same name. The film focused mainly on Millard and his relationship with his father, which served as the inspiration for the song.
“When hopeful newcomer Tim Timmons (Milo Ventimiglia, “This Is Us”) joins the band for their biggest tour yet, he unknowingly brings a renewed gratitude to Bart’s life through their unlikely friendship,” reads the full synopsis of the film. “Bart soon discovers that Tim carries hardships—and secrets—of his own, forcing him to face his past and repair his relationships with Sam and his wife, Shannon (Sophie Skelton), before fame costs him what matters most.”
