Thelma Trailer Teases June Squibb as Unlikely Action Hero

Magnolia Pictures has released a new Thelma trailer for its upcoming action-comedy film, which stars June Squibb as an unlikely action hero.

Thelma is written and directed by Josh Margolin, and inspired by a real-life experience with his grandmother. Alongside Squibb, the film also stars Fred Hechinger, Clark Gregg, and Nicole Byer.

The film follows the story of a grandmother who gets conned by a phone scammer, and sets out on a quest for revenge. Thelma is set to release in theaters on June 21, 2024.

What is Thelma about?

“Squibb, who did most of her own stunts in the film, plays Thelma Post, a feisty 93-year-old grandmother who gets conned by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson (The White Lotus’ Fred Hechinger) and sets out on a treacherous quest across Los Angeles, accompanied by an aging friend (Roundtree) and his motorized scooter, to reclaim what was taken from her. Parker Posey, Clark Gregg, and Malcolm McDowell also star.”

This will mark the first leading role for the 94-year-old Squibb, who was nominated for an Academy Award for her role in 2013’s Nebraska, and has also appeared in films like Toy Story 4, Palm Springs, Hubie Halloween, and the upcoming Inside Out 2.
