Wish Videos: Disney Unveils Chris Pine’s Villain Song ‘This Is the Thanks I Get?!’

Disney has unveiled two new Wish videos for its next animated fantasy movie featuring Chris Pine singing his character’s villain song, titled “This Is the Thanks I Get,” penned by Grammy nominee Julia Michaels and Grammy winner Benjamin Rice.

Both videos provide a preview of the villain song performed by Pine’s nefarious King Magnifico, as well as the behind-the-scenes footage of the Rise of the Guardians star’s recording session. The film arrives in theaters on November 22.

“We’d provide a rough version of the script [to Julia and Ben] and they’d go away for a while and come back with a song,” co-director Fawn Veerasunthorn said in a statement. “Their songs inspired us. For ‘This Is The Thanks I Get?!’ we knew we wanted Magnifico to be charming and, of course, evil. He’s also funny! In the song, he cracks jokes—he’s narcissistic. But it’s all tongue-in-cheek and he’s still somehow completely likable, which is great for a villain.”

What is Wish?

“Wish is an all-new story is set in the magical kingdom of Rosas, where Asha, an optimist with a sharp wit and a deep caring for her community, turns to the sky in a moment of need, and makes a wish,” reads the film’s synopsis. “Asha’s plea is answered by a cosmic force, a little ball of boundless energy, Star. Together, they will face the most formidable of foes to save her community and prove that when the will of one courageous human connects with the magic of the stars — wondrous things can happen.”

It is being directed by Chris Buck (Frozen films) and Veerasunthorn (Raya and the Last Dragon) from a screenplay written by Jennifer Lee and Allison Moore. The film will feature the voices of Ariana DeBose as Asha, Chris Pine as Magnifico, and Alan Tudyk as Asha’s favorite goat, Valentino.

The film is produced by Peter Del Vecho (Frozen) and Juan Pablo Reyes (Encanto), with Lee executive producing. It features original songs by Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Julia Michaels and Grammy-winning producer/songwriter/musician Benjamin Rice, plus a score by composer Dave Metzger.
