Lightyear Teaser Trailer: Chris Evans Leads Disney-Pixar Movie

Disney and Pixar have finally revealed the teaser trailer for the upcoming sci-fi animated film titled Lightyear, centering around the origins of Buzz Lightyear, the space ranger that inspired the beloved Toy Story character.

The Lightyear teaser, which you can check out below along with the poster, provides us with our first glimpse into some of the film’s action-packed sequences as well as its visual tone and the iconic character’s signature green-white space suit.

Featuring the voice of Marvel Cinematic Universe vet Chris Evans, the film is slated to arrive in theaters on June 17, 2022. Its current theatrical release date will pit the film against no direct competition, but it will be debuting in the same month as two other high-profile films including Jurassic World: Dominion, and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

Lightyear is a sci-fi action-adventure film that hails from director and veteran Pixar animator Angus MacLane (Finding Dory). It is produced by Galyn Susman (Toy Story 4Ratatouille).

The animated spin-off film presents the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the hero who inspired the toy (voiced by Tim Allen in the original movie series)—introducing the legendary Space Ranger who would win generations of fans. It is expected to explore the story of how a young test pilot became the Space Ranger that we all know him to be today.

The Toy Story franchise started with John Lasseter’s 1995 film which spawned off three more sequels. It featured the voices of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Annie Potts, Don Rickles, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger, and more. The films currently have a combined worldwide gross of more than $3 billion. The last two films had both earned an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
