Speaking with WrestleZone’s Dominic Deangelo, Winkler looked back on the film and getting to work with some wrestling legends, including the likes of Roddy Piper and Chavo Guerrero, who played in-ring enemies of Winklers in the film.

You can check out the full interview with Winkler below:

“I trained a few weeks before we started filming and then several nights a week during filming so I was ready for the routine for that particular day of shooting,” Winkler said when talking about the scenes with Piper and other wrestlers. “And these guys, Piper and all the guys that I wrestled with were so supportive and so careful and they took such good care of me so that I would not be hurt because no matter what, it was rough and tumble existence. My pride—my pride was injured if I missed a move.”

Winkler also spoke about working with Carl Reiner, who directed the 1978 film. The late director was beloved by many, including Winkler, who called him a “magician with words” and said that someone like him would never be replaced.
