Studiocanal has finally released the first Gunpowder Milkshake trailer for their upcoming action-thriller film, featuring an all-star female cast led by Karen Gillan. The film is slated to arrive in U.S. on July 14, exclusively on Netflix, with Studiocanal and STXfilms handling the international distribution.
The video highlights Gillan’s Sam as she goes against The Firm in order to save an 8-year-old. In order to defeat them, she enlists the help of her long-lost assassin mother and fellow badass women to take them down once and for all. Check out the Gunpowder Milkshake trailer in the player below.
Described as in the same vein as Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill and Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver, Gunpowder Milkshake features a powerhouse female cast including Karen Gillan, Lena Headey, Michelle Yeoh, Carla Gugino, Angela Bassett, and Chloe Coleman. It will also star Paul Giamatti, Adam Nagaitis, and Michael Smiley.
In the film, Sam was only 12 years old when her mother, an elite assassin named Scarlet, was forced to abandon her. Sam was raised by The Firm, the ruthless crime syndicate her mother worked for. Now, 15 years later, Sam has followed in her mother’s footsteps and grown into a fierce hit-woman. She uses her “talents” to clean up The Firm’s most dangerous messes. She’s as efficient as she is loyal.
But when a high-risk job goes wrong, Sam must choose between serving The Firm and protecting the life of an innocent 8-year-old girl – Emily. With a target on her back, Sam has only one chance to survive: Reunite with her mother and her lethal associates: The Librarians. These three generations of women must now learn to trust each other, stand up to The Firm and their army of henchmen, and raise hell against those who could take everything from them.
Gunpowder Milkshake is directed by Israeli filmmaker Navot Papushado from a screenplay he co-wrote with Ehud Lavski. Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman of The Picture Company are producing as part of their overall deal with Studiocanal. It has also been confirmed that Studiocanal has already started planning its potential sequel.
