Sony Pictures has released the official Here Today trailer for acclaimed actor-director Billy Crystal‘s upcoming new comedy feature, which stars Crystal and Emmy winner Tiffany Haddish. The video features a singer and a long-time comedy writer as their unexpected friendship changes their lives for the better. It will arrive in theaters on Friday, May 7, which pits the film against Jason Statham’s Wrath of Man and David Oyelowo’s The Water Man.
Based on Alan Zweibel’s short story “The Prize,” the film is directed by Billy Crystal from a screenplay he co-adapted with fellow Saturday Night Live alum Zweibel. This marks Crystal’s first directorial feature project in a long while since directing 2001’s sports drama titled 61*.
In Here Today, a veteran comedy writer Charlie Burnz meets New York singer Emma Payge. They go on to form an unlikely yet hilarious and touching friendship that kicks the generation gap aside and redefines the meaning of love and trust.
The film will star Crystal, Tiffany Haddish (Girls’ Trip), Penn Badgley (You, Gossip Girl), Laura Benanti (Gossip Girl, Younger), Louisa Krause (The Girlfriend Experience, Dark Waters), Anna Deavere Smith (Flora & Ulysses, For The People) and Nyambi Nyambi (The Good Fight, Blindspotting).
Here Today is produced by Crystal, Zweibel, Haddish, Fred Bernstein and Dominique Telso, with Rick Jackson, Claudine Marrotte and Samantha Sprecher set as executive producers. Astute Films producing in association with Face Productions and Big Head Productions.
