During a guest appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the cast of Sony Pictures’ new Charlie’s Angels debuted the first official clip from the Elizabeth Banks-directed film, giving us a preview of the titular trio’s mission as they try to chase their target from getting away. In Banks’ bold vision, Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska are working for the mysterious Charles Townsend, whose security and investigative agency has expanded internationally. With the world’s smartest, bravest, and most highly trained women all over the globe, there are now teams of Angels guided by multiple Bosleys taking on the toughest jobs everywhere.
The screenplay is by Elizabeth Banks from a story by Evan Spiliotopoulos and David Auburn. The cast also includes breakout star Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before), Jonathan Tucker (Westworld), Sam Claflin (Adrift) as well as Patrick Stewart, Djimon Hounsou, and Banks who are all reportedly playing the role of “Bosley” in the project. How that will work remains to be seen.
The film is produced by Banks and Max Handelman via their Brownstone production company along with Elizabeth Cantillon and Doug Belgrad who is co-financing through his 2.0 Entertainment banner. Andrea Giannetti oversees the film for Sony.
The franchise began with a TV show that ran from 1976-1981 starring Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd. There were two films, Charlie’s Angels in 2000 and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle in 2003, starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu. The new film will serve as a sequel to both the series and the films.
Charlie’s Angels is set to make its debut on November 15.
