Helena Bonham Carter Joins Legendary’s Enola Holmes Movie

According to The Hollywood Reporter,  Academy Award-nominated actress Helena Bonham Carter (King’s Speech) has been tapped to join Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown in Legendary’s upcoming film adaptation of Enola Holmes, which was based on YA author Nancy Springer’s Enola Holmes Mysteries novel series. Carter is reportedly set to portray the role of Brown’s mother. She will next be seen in the upcoming third season of Netflix‘s critically-acclaimed series The Crown, portraying the role of Prince Margaret.

The Edgar Award-nominated YA book series kicked off in 2006 with The Case of the Missing Marquess and spans six installments centering on Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes’ teenage sister as she strikes out as a capable detective. The film will be directed by Harry Bradbeer with Jack Thorne set to pen the screenplay. Brown will also be serving as producer for the Enola Holmes franchise through her PCMA Productions, with Alex Garcia and Ali Mendes overseeing the project for Legendary.

Brown has already developed a working relationship with Legendary after starring in next year’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters for director Michael Dougherty. That sequel has a March 22, 2019 release date. She is also expected to reprise her already-iconic role as Eleven in the third season of Stranger Things for Netflix, which is also expected for release in 2019.

Sherlock Holmes’ own younger years were previously speculated on in Barry Levinson’s 1985 fantasy Young Sherlock Holmes, which was written by Chris Columbus and produced by Steven Spielberg.
