Enola Holmes 3 star Millie Bobby Brown has opened up about leaving social media. The Stranger Things star says quitting changed everything. Brown explained why she stepped away years ago. She also shared how she still connects with fans today.
Why Millie Bobby Brown deleted social media in 2021
Speaking with Josh Horowitz, Brown discussed growing up in the spotlight. Horowitz noted that social media can be especially harsh. He said famous young women often face the worst of it. Brown agreed without holding anything back. “It’s hell.”
She then explained why she left social media in 2021. Brown said she deleted everything and never looked back. “I deleted social media in 2021, and I never looked back. I couldn’t do it anymore. Like, I tried, but I have a large digital footprint.”
Brown said she hired someone else to manage everything online. She felt it was better for her mental health. “I thought, ‘No, there’s no need for this anymore.’ So I needed to hire someone, for my mental health, to take care of it for me. Somebody who is an expert in social media, who knows what they’re doing.”
Although Brown no longer manages her social media herself, her Instagram remains active. She said she still writes the captions and stays connected with fans. However, she chooses not to read the comments anymore.
“I still want to feel connected to my fans. I still want my fans to know it’s my caption. But I don’t want to see what people have to say about it. Because I don’t care.”
Brown’s comments come during another busy year. Following the conclusion of Stranger Things, she returned to Netflix once again. Her newest movie, Enola Holmes 3, premiered on July 1, 2026.
So far, Enola Holmes 3 holds a 69% critics score and a 66% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
