G.I. Joe: Retaliation helmer Jon M. Chu is in negotiations to direct Matched for Walt Disney Pictures, says The Hollywood Reporter. David Slade was previously attached to direct.
The film will be based on Ally Condie’s young adult sci-fi romance series. The first book is described as follows:
In the Society, Officials decide. Who you love. Where you work. When you die. Cassia has always trusted their choices, but she begins to question just how perfect her world really is when she notices things are not what they seem. As Cassia begins to doubt the Societys infallibility, she is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life shes known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.
Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot are producing via their Offspring Entertainment. Chu previously worked together with Shankman and Gibgot on Step Up 2: The Streets and Step Up 3D.
Michelle and Kieran Mulroney (Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows) wrote the script. You can watch a book trailer for “Matched” below:
