Johnny Depp and Disney Plan Modern Don Quixote Tale

Johnny Depp has his sights set on a modern day adaptation of “Don Quixote.” Deadline reports that his company, Infinitum Nihil, has teamed with Walt Disney Pictures to pick up a pitch from screenwriters Steve Pink and Jeff Morris based on Miguel de Cervantes’ hero.

Depp’s interest in “Don Quixote” should come as no surprise to his fans. The actor previously attempted a period adaptation of the tale with Terry Gilliam directing. The production, which featured Depp in the Sancho Panza role, famously fell apart and was documented in the film Lost in La Mancha. Next summer, too, Depp will be showcasing a Panza-inspired performance with the release of Gore Verbinski’s The Lone Ranger.

“It’s sort of ‘Don Quixote’ told from Sancho Panza’s point of view,” Verbinski said of the July 3, 2013 blockbuster in an interview with ComingSoon.net last year.

Although unconfirmed to do so, Depp will likely star in the new project and will produce alongside Christi Dembrowski.
