Earlier today, we said the viral marketing for Guillermo del Toro’s new movie Pacific Rim has officially kicked off, and they’re not slowing down. The folks at Wired have uncovered a blueprints for the giant two-man robots from the film known as ‘Jaegers.’ Below you’ll see your first look at the robots and you can check out the content from earlier today by clicking here. Also don’t forget to check out the Pan Pacific Defense Corps website, too.
In the film, legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, start rising from the sea and begin a war that would takes millions of lives and consumes humanitys resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankinds last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
Pacific Rim stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, and Charlie Day and is set to be released in 2D and 3D on July 12, 2013.
