Chan-wook Park, best known for his “Vengeance trilogy” (Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy, and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance), is set to direct Corsica 72, Variety reports. Written by Neil Purvis and Robert Wade (Skyfall, the project made the 2009 “Black List” of unproduced screenplays with the following official logline:
On the island of Corsica in 1972, childhood best friends Marco and Sauveur find their lives veering in opposite directions the first towards the Mafia, the second toward a simpler life with his beloved, Lucia. When the Corsican mob kills Sauveurs brother, they ignite a tit-for-tat blood feud that inevitably leads toward a final showdown.
Park recently completed production on his English-language debut, Stoker. That film stars Mia Wasikowska, Matthew Goode, Nicole Kidman, Dermot Mulroney, Jacki Weaver, Alden Ehrenreich and Lucas Till and is scheduled to hit theaters on March 1, 2013.
