Warner Bros. Plans The Planet Thieves

Warner Bros. has tentative plans to adapt Dan Krokos’ forthcoming young adult novel The Planet Thieves into a feature film, Deadline reports. The book, scheduled to be published in 2013 by Tor/Starscape, is officially described as follows:

When the crew of the SS Egypt gets massacred by an alien race, Mason Stark, a thirteen-year-old cadet in the Earth Space Command, must lead his fellow cadets in a daring surprise attack to retake the ship, and recover a stolen technology that could spell the end of planet Earth.

“I wanted to write a pure adventure story,” Krokos writes on his blog, “Something fun. What I came up with is slightly darker than what I was going for, but it’s still a work in progress. I got the idea when I imagined the bridge of a space ship manned only by cadets. Kids who knew what they were doing but lacked the experience of battle. I asked myself why that would happen, and went from there.”

Bendersprink and Heyday Films will produce the adaptation with Pouya Shahbazian.
