Variety is reporting that Oscar-winning actress Marcia Gay Harden has booked a role headlining Juan Feldman’s indie drama The Librarian, playing a mild-mannered librarian trying to start a new life for herself while touring Costa Rica.
Scripted by Joel Silverman and produced by Classic Films with Mano a Mano Films, the film which involves Harden’s character suffering a midlife crisis as she explores Costa Rica with a “lothario and dime-store philosopher” she hired to take her around, will begin shooting in Costa Rica in July.
Feldman previously directed the short film “Keepsake” and the play “Accepting the Pale,” as well as worked as an assistant director. He had this to say about the country where he’ll be shooting his first feature-length film as director: “It’s a magical place and one that really does have the natural power to help restore a person. The common greeting there are the words ‘pura vida’ — pure life.”
Screenwriter Joel Silverman’s other scripts include Garo for Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer Productions, Undefeated for Universal, and two more recent scripts called Brian Stokes and Barney Ross.
A prolific actress, Harden will soon be seen in CBS Films’ Get A Job, If I Were You, Someday This Pain Will Be Useful to You and The Wine of Summer. She’s been nominated for two Oscars, winning for her supporting role in Ed Harris’ Pollock, then receiving a second nomination for her performance in Clint Eastwood’s Mystic River.
