Justice League Dark Concept Art Reveals the Movie That Might Have Been

Last summer, filmmaker Joseph Kahn (TorqueDetentionBodied) revealed that he had previously pitched on the long in-development Justice League Dark and offered a sneak peek at an animation test he had created to show Swamp Thing in action.

Now, the director has taken to Twitter to reveal even more about his rejected pitch for the film, including pieces of concept art that Ironklad Studios created for him along with his “wishlist” actors for the various roles. Included in the concept art were fresh designs for JLD members Swamp Thing, John Constantine (with Dan Stevens in the role), Zatanna (with Natalie Dormer in the role), Deadman, and Jason Blood (with Chiwetel Ejiofor in the role). Check them all out below!

The status of Justice League Dark remains to be seen. An animated feature film based on the concept was released last year, but reports on the development of a live-action film continue to surface. Back in August, it was revealed that screenwriter Gerard Johnstone (Housebound) was polishing the script, but two high profile directors had already passed on the project in the last year, including Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow) and Andy Muschietti (IT).

The comic book Justice League Dark team made their debut during DC’s “New 52” publishing initiative in 2011. A paranormal-leaning super team, the group featured the likes of John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Zatanna, Frankenstein, Deadman, Madame Xanadu, and The Phantom Stranger among its ranks. Prior to Liman’s involvement and departure, Guillermo del Toro had been attached to direct the Justice League Dark movie, which was set to be titled Dark Universe. Since then though, Universal Pictures used that moniker for their attempt at rebooting their classic monsters, so the film (should it ever be made) will likely carry the Justice League Dark title.
