Josh Trank to Take on Shadow of the Colossus

In development for some time, Sony Pictures’ video game adaptation Shadow of the Colossus appears to have found a director. Deadline is reporting that Josh Trank, who made his feature debut earlier this year with 20th Century Fox’s Chronicle, has signed on to helm.

Colossus, which was released exclusively on the PlayStation 2 in 2005, revolves around a man named Wander who must travel across a cursed wasteland and defeat 16 creatures, known as the colossi, in order to restore the life of a girl.

Though Justin Marks was, at one point, attached to script the feature film version, the new intention appears to be to start from scratch and a call is currently out for writers.

Trank is lining up a number of high-profile projects at various studios. Also at Sony, he’s said to be attached to direct the Spider-Man spinoff Venom, while at Warner Bros., he’s to helm the comic book adaptation The Red Star. Meanwhile, Trank’s name has been connected with 20th Century Fox’s reboot of Fantastic Four as well.
