Goblins Next Up for Laika Studios

Laika Studios, the stop-motion animated production house based in Portland, Oregon, are remaining in the fantasy-horror genre they’ve established with their previous two outings, an adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Coraline and the upcoming Paranorman, announcing that their next project will be an adaptation of Philip Reeve’s Goblins with The Fantastic Mr. Fox animation director Marc Gustafson at the helm.

The book, released in the UK earlier this month and released in the United States later this year, tells the tale of a young goblin named Skarper who lives in a castle with his fellow goblins and who discovers an ancient evil is rising that he feels the need to stop.

Laika President and CEO (and a stop motion animator in his own right) Travis Knight gave this statement about the project:

“Goblins is a fantasy with bite. In the hands of Laika’s freakishly talented artists and guided by the ineffably gifted Mark Gustafson, it will make a strange, stirring, and altogether beautiful film.”
