Crime Scene Pictures partners Adam Ripp and Rob Paris today announced that they will join forces with producers Francesco Melzi d’Eril (I Am Love, Hotel Rwanda) from Memo Films and Luca Guadagnino (I Am Love) under his First Sun film banner to produce and finance Suspiria, based on Dario Argentos 1977 film of the same name.
David Gordon Green (All the Real Girls, Pineapple Express) will direct from a script he penned with Chris Gebert. Rizal Risjad, Silvia Fendi and Philip Elway will executive produce and Lisa Muskat will co-produce. Wild Bunch plans to sell international territories at Cannes in May while CAA represents the U.S. distribution rights.
Scheduled to begin filming in September, Suspiria is a horror film centered on Suzie, a bright and ambitious American student who travels to Europe to attend a world renowned school. After a fellow student is brutally murdered and several other cruel and strange homicides disrupt the once quiet life on campus, Suzie realizes that the academy may be a front for a more menacing organization.
Crime Scene Pictures partners Ripp and Paris said: We love the style and energy of the original film and Davids script brilliantly updates the world, presenting a rare opportunity to create an elegant, classic horror film.
