Quentin Tarantino is set to direct a film about the Charles Manson murders

Director Quentin Tarantino is looking into developing a film about the Charles Manson murders, THR reports. The untitled project is planned for Tarantino to once again write and direct. Frequent collaborators Harvey and Bob Weinstein are said to be involved and the project is reportedly in the early stages of being shopped to studios and distributors.

The film is reportedly in the final stages of writing and Brad Pitt (who worked with Tarantino in the 2009 film Inglorious Basterds) and Jennifer Lawrence are being approached for roles. The Manson murders film will likely shoot in the summer of 2018. The script is said to be centered, at least one part of it, around Sharon Tate, actress and wife of director Roman Polanski, who was murdered by Manson and his followers in 1969.

Charles Manson amassed a large following and the group was ordered to attack the people in a house in Los Angeles that he thought was owned by a record producer who rejected Manson’s work. Four of his followers murdered Tate, who was eight months pregnant at the time, as well as four other people in the house. Manson is currently serving life in prison as are a number of his followers for these and other murders that same year.

Tarantino is known for his unique style of writing and directing, often using the same actors across different films, including Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, Tim Roth, Zoe Bell, Christoph Waltz and Michael Madsen. He’s written and directed films like Jackie Brown, the Kill Bill films, Django UnchainedInglorious BasterdsReservoir DogsThe Hateful Eight and Pulp FictionPulp Fiction and Django Unchained won Academy Awards for Best Original Screenplay.
