This year’s Sundance Film Festival is just over a week away and one of the movies I’m most looking forward to seeing, as well as one of the movies I’m going to commit to seeing at midnight in the festival’s popular Park City at Midnight programming, is Shut Up and Play the Hits!, Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace’s movie, which follows the last 48 hours in the life of James Murphy’s electronica group LCD Soundsystem. After roughly seven years of being one of the most popular New York hipster bands out there, winning many awards and accolades along the way, Murphy and the group decided to call it quits, giving one last epic three-hour show at New York’s Madison Square Garden. When that sold out in minutes, they added four more lead-up shows at the Terminal 5 club leading up to their last show, which also sold out.
I got to meet James Murphy during my time as a recording engineer, which is WAY before LCD Soundsystem ever existed, but I actually was at that final MSG show, which was one of the best concerts I saw last year so needless to say, I’m dying to see what led up to and followed that final show.
EW.com is now premiering the first trailer for what’s likely to be a popular draw at this year’s Sundance, and while we’ll have a full preview of the other movies to watch out for at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, you can check out that trailer over at EW.com.
Shut Up and Play the Hits! premieres on Sunday, January 22 at midnight.
