Paramount Insurge’s The Devil Inside beat all expectations at the box office on Friday, earning $16.9 million from 2,285 theaters. Paramount bought the horror film for $1 million, which the studio made back with $2.2 million in midnight screenings alone.
Directed by William Brent Bell and starring Fernanda Andrade, Isabella Rossi, Simon Quarterman, Evan Helmuth, Ionut Grama, Suzan Crowley, Bonnie Morgan, Brian Johnson, Preston James Hillier and D.T. Carney, the movie may earn around $30 million its first weekend.
Paramount took second as well with Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol adding $6.2 million. The Brad Bird-directed action thriller has reached $155.9 million domestically and has earned over $416 million worldwide.
Third place belonged to Warner Bros.’ Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, which brought in $4.3 million to push its total to $147.6 million domestically and $253.6 million worldwide.
Sony’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo added $3.5 million in fourth for a total of $69 million domestically.
