Although it was said earlier this year that the role would be played by Julia Ormond, Deadline is now reporting that a change of casting has placed Ayelet Zurer in the role of Lara, Kal-El’s birth mother, in the upcoming Man of Steel.
Zurer, who will appear opposite Russell Crowe in the role of Superman’s Kryptonian father, Jor-El, is best known for appearances in films like Angels and Demons and Munich.
Now filming, Man of Steel‘s cast also includes Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Christopher Meloni, Harry Lennix and Laurence Fishburne. It is targeting a June 14, 2013 release.
