Cary Fukunaga has signed on to direct Universal Pictures’ sci-fi project Spaceless, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter.
Based on a spec script by Jeff Vintar (I, Robot), the project involves an interstellar assassin who, after trying to fulfill a contract aboard a space station, awakens to find himself drifting helplessly through space in a computerized spacesuit.
Gore Verbinksi (Rango, Pirates of the Caribbean) is attached to the project as a producer, as is Vintar.
Fukunaga most recently directed Jane Eyre, which followed up his 2009 feature debut, Sin Nombre.
