Joan Allen and Albert Finney have joined the cast of the upcoming Universal project, The Bourne Legacy, Variety reports.
Described as an “expansion” of the universe started with the 2002 film (in turn based on the series of novels by Robert Ludlum), the August 3, 2012 release will also feature Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton and Oscar Isaac.
Allen, who appeared in both The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, will reprise her role as Pam Landy while Finney (who appeared solely in Ultimatum) will return as Dr. Albert Hirsch.
Tony Gilroy will be both writing and directing this time around and will weave a story that, while it won’t feature Jason Bourne, will still be intrinsically tied to the character.
