Even before the release of The Hangover Part II, the cast and crew of the comedy hinted that a third outing was on the table. After the record-setting opening weekend of the sequel, it is likely that The Hangover Part III will hit sooner rather than later and now, leading man Zach Galifianakis hints at a possible plot. The following is an excerpt from a recent article in Rolling Stone:
“They want to do a Hangover III,” [Galifianakis] says. “I’m getting fricking phone calls already.” According what he’s heard, the plot ditches the format of the first two and focuses on his character escaping from a mental institution with help from the wolf pack.
Previously, writer/director Todd Phillips revealed that the third film would offer a very different take on the popular characters and would finish off the film series.
“Obviously we always envisioned it as a trilogy,” he said, “The third would be very much a finale and an ending… I haven’t discussed it with these actors yet. [It would] not follow the same template, but is very much a new idea.”
Though it’s too soon to say for sure, it’s possible that Warner Bros. will duplicate the short turnaround between the first two films and target a third chapter for the summer of 2013.
