The Hangover Part II Makes $10.4 Million at Midnight

Fans of Todd Phillips’ 2009 comedy hit The Hangover were out late last night seeing the anticipated sequel The Hangover Part II, which puts the characters played by Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms in Thailand.

In midnight screenings alone, it has already grossed $10.4 million. That’s the highest midnight showing for a movie in 2011 so far and that is without the higher ticket prices of 3D and IMAX. It’s hard to determine how this will translate into the movie’s five-day Memorial Day weekend gross, but one can expect it will have a very big opening day with that sort of midnight showing, possibly in the range of $25 to 27 million or even higher.

Check back on Monday to see how what many have projected will be the highest opening R-rated comedy ever fares, as well as the showing for its primary weekend competition, DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda 2.
